"Three Daisies at Joe's Pond" (matted)

Three Daisies at Joe's Pond
7.5x5
Watercolor
Archivally matted
$115

When I was taking a summer education class at St. Johnsbury Academy in Vermont, I took a break one summer day and followed my nose to Joe's Pond, where I sat in the grass, enjoyed the sun and did this watercolor. Was the watercolor just an excuse for sitting by the pond that day? Maybe. Sort of like fishing. I always thought that catching the fish was second to actually being out there and having a reason to do so. Joe's Pond is in northern Vermont, and I always like to think of it as the pond where they put a figure in a chair on the ice and take bets as to when the ice will break up and the pond will gobble him up. No ice that day I was there, though.

This piece is archivally matted to 12x14 for a nice presentation. This image, as are the other small florals, is part of "A Year in Bloom" a series of 365 paintings I created one year. Many of these images are available as blank cards, and I have 10 card sets (sets of 5 different blank cards) available on Etsy.

Remembrance -The Pink Chair Project #14 - "Visiting"

                    "VISITING"
Oil on Canvas
20x20
$750

Available for delayed sale (see below)

This piece depicts a beautiful garden in my sister’s backyard. The pond is the center of evening campfire conversations, and has served many family gatherings, and even was the location for a renewal of wedding vows for my brother. It also serves as a memorial to my sister’s daughter, Laura, who succumbed to a brain tumor at age 22. The artifacts around it celebrate her life and love, with butterfly symbols and a pair of nestling love birds given to Georgie at a memorial service. I did the painting from a photo I took in August, but I like the lush look of spring better, with the beautiful green moss. So I put summer flowers with spring water, and like it just fine!

I am now sharing my current show with my readers and daily paintworks viewers. This show is currently traveling and will be available for purchase after the travel is completed, around mid-2014. Paintings may be held until then with a 10% down payment. E-mail me or see my pink chair project blog, for details

This exhibit tells the story about painting a pink plastic Adirondack chair. The chair represents my mother, Carolyn Elizabeth Pedersen Schulte, of Rochester, NY, who passed on June 5th, 2011. She was a wonderful woman, full of love for everyone around her, and she loved this bright color pink. She was proud of me as an artist and would love what I am doing. I take the chair to favorite places of hers and to places or situations I know she would have liked. It is a way for me to grieve and to celebrate her life. I talk to her as I paint and make sure that she would want to be where the chair has been placed.

Remembrance -The Pink Chair Project #10 - "Remembrance"

REMEMBRANCE

Oil on Canvas
36X36

Available for delayed sale
$1900

I did this painting from a photo I took at Long Hill’s Sedgewick gardens, where I did "Meditation - First Lotus. Later this painting was used for the invitation to the exhibit. I worked hard to try to get a spot where I would not see the chair, but I would see its reflection in the water. This was the perfect image for that. It was my first large piece in the series and I learned a lot about greens! Many people do not see the chair at first glance, though children seem to pick it up quicker than adults because of the reflected image. Like in our memories and our reflections on our lives, the images are there, but altered by our perceptions, experiences, and by time. I find my memories of Mom are changed already. Qualities of my mom that were in the background are coming to the foreground as I appreciate them more. I start to see how they have altered and enriched my life and how I have been given the gift of looking, sometimes, in the same direction. The paintings tell me all I need to know.

Remembrance -The Pink Chair Project #6 - "Meditation - First Lotus"

Meditation -First Lotus

This Painting is Available, see below

I have painted many times at the beautiful Sedgwick Gardens at Long Hill in Beverly, MA. It is the headquarters of the Trustees of Reservations, a wonderful group dedicated to the preservation and stewardship of our state's conservation lands. I decided that I would take the pink chair there and set up next to a beautiful water feature with lilies and lotuses. As I set up, I was told that I was lucky - that the lotus had just opened for the first time. It was just gorgeous in it's delicacy and I was taken by the sense of being in the presence of an ancient and exotic flower. I knew Mom would love it, so I set her chair up close to it so that she could get a good look.

I painted for several hours, always receding further away so I could have the benefit of the shade. I do like shade when I paint! I managed to stay in the same relationship to the chair so I could paint the same view. The painting came out a very rich green, and because of the oriental flower, I decided that it looked like Mom was meditating quietly behind the blooms. I like the way the leaves come in and out of focus and the way they arch over the chair like they are protecting it.

PLum Island #2 - Just Mowed

Plum Island #2 - Just Mowed
12x12
Oil on cradled panel
$325

The same day I painted Plum Island #1 (posted yesterday) I painted this picture at the Parker River Wildlife Preserve at Plum Island. I just looked right instead of left, same spot. The fields had just been mowed, probably a control of some kind in this wildlife refuge, and there were wet spots in the foreground as well as the waterway behind. What at first seemed rather plain and simple, became one of my favorites.

Framed "Silver Roof in Sunlight"

Silver Roof in Sunshine
Oil on Panel
11x14
Gold Frame
$375

I am still at Plymouth Notch, home of President Calvin Coolidge. Here is another nearby house. It has that amazing metal standing seam roof that works so well in a snowy location. And Plymouth Notch is VERY snowy! I was taken with how it glimmered in the sun!

Framed "The Red Roof"

The Red Roof
16x20
Oil on Canvas
Gold Frame
$575

I'm back painting in Plymouth Notch, VT, again. I love this place! This is the view with your back to Coolidge's home, and at one time it was his grandfather's farm, I think. The pond was a great reflector and the golden light just flooded everything. I like the way the distant hill went all purple; it really did that. This painting is the largest one from the travel series.
