"Egret"
12x12
Oil on Canvas
Framed, contemporary float frame with black liner.

auction: starting bid $175
Special price - Buy it now $350
Permanent price after auction $590

OK, I am going to spill some secrets here.  I was visiting on Cape Cod and stopped in at the Cape Cod Art Association in Barnstable to visit a friend of mine who was teaching a class. She asked me to join the class but what they were doing was not a good choice for me. So I just looked out the window and painted what I saw. It was a parking lot. And trees. And bushes that added some interest by blowing in the wind. My friend sugrested I put some of the grassy area in, so far still pretty boring. Then I decided it to put the blue in and now things started to happen. Now the trees were reflected in the water! Now I had some sense of scale! But - still someting was missing. I went back to the studio and there he was - a lovely white egret that I had watched and then snapped a photo of from a restaurant deck. Bingo! There you have it - artistic license and why we need it!

Note: Get the best value by bidding in the auction, or by using the buy it now button if you can't wait or take a chance. When the auction is over, the painting will revert to the permanent price if unsold.

Hidden Seconsett Spot

12x12
Oil on Canvas
Contemporary Float Frame, Light Wood

Auction: Starting Bid: $175

Buy it now price during auction $350
Price after auction closes $590

I stayed on Cape Cod for a week to paint, at the home of a friend who lived in an area I had not yet discovered, a settled island called Seconset with lots of lovely nooks and crannies between the houses. This particular spot was shown to me as if showing a treasure, a hidden spot - and it was a treasure. Though it was overcast, it was quiet and lovely at the end of the access area, and no one bothered me the whole time I was there!

This piece is sold

I came across this and thought you might like to see it. It was done in Texas Falls State Park in Vermont, sitting on a picnic table and not knowing yet that I had been bitten by those tiny bugs, I think black flies, under my hairline while I had been sitting over by the falls. Glad I didn't know it then! It was such a peaceful beautiful day.

One of my favorite escape places is the Nubble Lighthouse in York Maine. Set off on a separate island, it is fabulous. The rocks surround the area where cars park to view it, and kids constantly climb up and down the rocks, searching for little crabs in the pools. I've watched my grandsons do this many times. Nothing makes them happier! Such a nice day, and it can be made even nicer by going over to the restaurant carryout and getting some Clam Chowder. Umm. Heaven.
