I am hungry to go to Long Hill Reservation in Beverly when the blue flowers come out. There are thousands of siberian squill and scilla and they pop up everywhere. It was a beautiful day when I sat down and painted these nestled in some rocks at the base of a greening-up tree.

Yup, they were all that slanted! This lovely little garden was in my sister's yard off a nice patio; a great spot to rest and visit!


This piece is archivally matted to 12x14 for a nice presentation. This image, as are the other small florals, is part of "A Year in Bloom" a series of 365 paintings I created one year. Oh, no, another yellow one! I thought I was done, but not yet. This is a florist's iris, painted in winter, when you are just dying for a taste of spring.

This was the first painting that I made with my driver's wheel easel (touched up in the studio) It really worked. The day was grey, misty and not condusive to outside work. I am going to call this my "no excuses easel" The flowers were primarily dame's rocket, just pouring down the hill side in the millions, I am sure, with a few lupines. Stonington, Maine is gorgeous in the spring. Ledges of granite abound, with wildflowers everywhere, backed by a special fishing village. A painter's paradise.

This is one of my favorite pieces for this time of year and I wanted to share it with you, even though it was sold. The colors tell just what is happening right now in the coastal marshes.I painted it at the Cox Reservation in Essex, MA. This gorgeous place was the home of renowned muralist Allyn Cox, who gave the property to the conservation group, Essex Greenbelt.

From their website: "The studio barn, which served as Cox’s Studio, still contains many of the tools used by Allyn Cox to practice and create his murals. Some of the implements on display include old canvas stretchers, brushes, and palettes. One of his murals is permanently on display. For one weekend every June, Greenbelt hosts an art exhibit and sale. Two barns are converted into colorful galleries, and display and sell the artwork of over 130 local Essex County artists.

The view there that I painted is often referred to as "Motif #2". It is a place where artists are always welcome and can find lots to paint.
