I love Newburyport and have the distinct pleasure of being near enough to go there to just wander around. On the road by the water there is this wonderful building just covered with vines I always notice. I painted it one day, just wanting to remember it. It's a permanent ink line drawing with watercolor on top.  I really like the very casualy done finished product.

Pink Chair Exhibit

At the first of several exhibits of the pink chair paintings the chair sits under a favorite piece and just beyond, "Daisy Love " that you saw yesterday. The stories are posted with each painting. With the chair itself is a board with post it notes where people write a love note to someone they miss. On the table is a journal with longer reminiscences.  

I leave you with this, because I am leaving in the morning on a 2 week painting trip to Maine where I probably won't have computer access so I can't post. It will also be good for me to be off line for a while. I will take it up again as soon as I return.

This piece was a surprise to me, because I was just playing, I thought. But sometimes creative play leads to nice pieces. I had some new metallic acrylic inks and wanted to try them. But I got lost in the image and really loved the outcome.

Another piece from the inside work series has a purple/red/gold theme with touches of blue and black. Each division has a separate theme with a abstracted connection to nature. Glints of metallics and delicate linear touches add details. A good piece for this time of year, where the garden is keeping me out of the studio. The white mat and dark wooden frame set it off.

This is a beautifully colorful piece. Black Sumi ink, and colored acrylic inks underlie prismacolor pencil detail and enrichment. The title and embedded words come from words in a Bernie Siegal tape, "Meditations for Peace of Mind". I would sit and listen at the end of a difficult day and be transported far away, in a type of self-hypnosis. It was a beautiful experience that helped me through a difficult time.

I absolutely love this piece. It is one of a series that I occasionally do, and I will show these pieces for a few days. I call them "inside work". This piece combines nature drawing with tissue collage, acrylic inks, and colored pencil. Though the effect is abstract, it actually is quite realistic if you know what you are looking at.
