It is with an unsure heart I put this up for auction because it is my favorite of the plein aire series. Strong brushwork in a dramatic sky make it a keeper. This piece is a plein aire painting done in Goose Rocks Beach in Kennebunkport, Maine.

This painting is one of those get up early and paint the sunrise mornings. It is amazing what clouds do. They change so much in a second! By the time you get to the top, the bottom has changed, and vice versa. But, if you capture it accurately in real time, it will all go together.

Wouldn't you just like to take a walk now out to the ledges? You can almost get there. And I love the patterns the watermakes in the sand....Maybe that's what I should paint next.This is one of 15 plein aire paintings I did in one week in at Goose Rocks beach in Kennebunkport, Maine in September, working on an enclosed porch at the crack of dawn. Because of the enclosure, I could set up the easel, lights for the easel and for the palette and be ready, coffee cup in hand for the first rays, and I never knew what the morning would bring - simple clear color stripes? a storm? This morning I got this later on, around ten, I think.
