It is with an unsure heart I put this up for auction because it is my favorite of the plein aire series. Strong brushwork in a dramatic sky make it a keeper. This piece is a plein aire painting done in Goose Rocks Beach in Kennebunkport, Maine.

I did this piece in a small size on site and then re-did it in the studio. I love this version, in fact it may be my favorite from the whole series. Though that is really hard to call! But this piece is unique in its coloring, and the feeling that comes through is of a magical silvery grey day. And it is still available....one of the few larger ones left. The teeny tiny person and boat give you the sense of majestic scale.

This is an extremely delicate piece; just a few brush strokes tell the story of the water and the sky. I loved the moon and I can't remember if it was rising or setting, but it made a great counterpoint for the sail. This photo does not do it justice, and I apologize for that. The color is more like that in the piece below, which has the same soft mood. It is a wonderful companion piece to "Wisps Over Flats" and if anyone wants to buy them as a set, I will take $100 off, with the set as $400. They really like each other and don't want to be separated. Just e-mail me: lynne@lynneschulte.com.

This painting is one of those get up early and paint the sunrise mornings. It is amazing what clouds do. They change so much in a second! By the time you get to the top, the bottom has changed, and vice versa. But, if you capture it accurately in real time, it will all go together.

Wouldn't you just like to take a walk now out to the ledges? You can almost get there. And I love the patterns the watermakes in the sand....Maybe that's what I should paint next.This is one of 15 plein aire paintings I did in one week in at Goose Rocks beach in Kennebunkport, Maine in September, working on an enclosed porch at the crack of dawn. Because of the enclosure, I could set up the easel, lights for the easel and for the palette and be ready, coffee cup in hand for the first rays, and I never knew what the morning would bring - simple clear color stripes? a storm? This morning I got this later on, around ten, I think. This soft and beautiful piece was painted from the glassed in front porch of a cottage on Goose Rocks Beach in Kennebunkport, Maine.  I just loved the flats when the tide ebbed and made unpredictible ripples in the sand, exposing treasures underneath. The ledges you see in the painting would dissapear almost entirely at high tide. The cloud patterns that morning were a perfect couterpoint to the sand shapes. What would you say? Is this a skyscape or a sea scape?

I thought it would be nice to show something besides flowers. This piece is the first one from my "Coastal Sunrise" series which I showed in May at the Marblehead Art Association It is a small studio painting created after a wonderful painting week at Goose Rocks Beach in Kennebunkport, Maine. All in this series are framed.

I still can't see the title of this piece without smiling, because it was the title of the song sung by the school department all-city chorus in Waltham, MA during my first year there as an arts administrator. Oh, the whole stage full of kids singing just took my breath away.

I just love anemones when it comes to painting......They are dramatic with that black center, have a great structure of interesting petals going every which way, and cool curly leaves. I painted thm frequently when I was doing the series "A Year in Bloom" This one is one of my favorites and is from the classic Pink Ribbon Collection of cards, the first set created.

If you haven't been to the National Historical Site of sculptor Auguste St Gaudens, you are missing something special. Beautiful grounds and gardens, Sunday concerts and the famous artist's sculpture studio has a fabulous pergola with this Pompian red wall that had tons of hollyhocks against it. I particularly liked the way these white ones showed up.

I will always remember those fairy roses because someone brought them to us as a wedding gift, and they stood on either side of the "aisle" we walked down on across the grass by our pond, to get to the minister. Later I planted them in the garden and I loved the lack of maintenance. Good thing too, as they are very prickery! I liked the leaves too; I haven't grown nicotania (flowering tobacco) since, but it is a plant with PRESENCE. Big leaves and white flowers that reach for the sky.

"Red Gladiolius Tips"

The gladiolus is a very difficult flower to use in the garden. They just have an awkward spike quality, smaller below and heavier above. But OH, when you pick them! I put them in a tall glass vase and they are spectacular! They also go on forever, fading away at the bottom and opening at the top. These were in their last hurrah, and just the tips had been cut off the spent stem, and they were still delighting us.
